PHYSIOTHERAPY CENTRE AND PHYSICAL REHABILITATION (MARIOS A. GEORGIOU)Physiotherapy - one of the oldest areas of medicine, a branch of medicine that studies preventative and therapeutic effects of physical factors, natural and artificially created, on the human body.
The aim of physiotherapy - is to achieve the best effect in the treatment of any disease, with the least burden on the patient`s body, using primarily physical methods of treatment.
Treatment with drugs in certain situations is certainly justified, but there is the possibility of unwanted side effects.
Surgical intervention is usually a last resort in treatment.
Therefore, the safest and most frequent area of treatment and rehabilitation to date remains physiotherapy, using methods that have been tested for millennia and are created in our time.
Physiotherapy is used as a stand alone treatment or in combination with other treatments (such as surgery or pharmacotherapy).
Physiotherapy treatments, like all others, are determinated by the nature of pathology (disease), stage of disease and its severity, tte patient`s medical history, age, sex and physical and mental condition.
Physical therapy is especially effective under combined treatment.
Physical therapy procedures include massage, manual therapy, physiotherapy exercises (gymnastics), treatment with electricity, light, water, mud treatments, thermal radiation, acupuncture, psychotherapy, elements, methods and balneology, and in the final stages (as indicated by) some sports, adapting training.
Depending on the methods used, physiotherapy is divided into many sections. Each of these sections includes a number of separate or integrated treatment of methods based on the use of a physical factor.
Treatment of mechanical effects include ultrasound therapy, vibrotherapy, massage and manual therapy.
Electrotherapy - physiotherapy using an electric current - consists of DC, AC, continuous and intermittent electric shock and alternating electromagnetic field.
Exercise therapy (physiotherapy) - is one of the most effective means of medical rehabilitation in traumatology, rheumatology, cardiology and neurology.
But ignoring the possibilities of physical therapy can significantly delay or even damage the positive effect of exercise therapy for illness or injury.
Thus, the use of physical activity on inflamed areas of muscle-ligament apparatus without removing the swelling and spasm, improved microcirculation may lead to minor bleeding, mikrotraumating and further hardening of the connective tissue.
Massage - the set of methods of mechanical and reflex effects on tissues and organs in the form of friction, pressure, vibration, carried out directly on the surface of the human body to achieve therapeutic effect.
On technique and methods of influence the following are distinguished: classic massage, segmental-reflex, connective tissue, periosteal, point, point-channel, cupping.
The main types of massage are sports, medical, hygienic and cosmetic.
Therapeutic massage is used both during treatment and after - in the phase of rehabilitation and has virtually no application limits.
Indications for massage:
- first of all, massage is usefull for healthy people in order to prevent various diseases
- back pain, lower back, neck, caused by degenerative-dystrophic processes in the spine
- fractures at all stages of healing
- functional disorder after fracture or dislocation (scars, muscle change, stiffness, or joint stiffness)
- arthritis in subacute and chronic stages
- neuralgia and neuritis
- gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer
- chronic gastritis
- bronchitis in subacute and chronic stages
- pneumonia - in the period of convalescence and chronic forms
- and many others.
In some cases, massage may not be recommended (check with your doctor).
To date, physical therapy in daily practice has confirmed its high treatment efficiency. Its use in surgery has a profound scientific and theoretical basis. The use of therapeutic physical factors is reasonable and timely manner contributes to rapid resolution of the pathological process, a rapid and full healing of damaged tissues, prevents the development of various complications, and generally helps to restore disturbed functions and work capacity of the patient.
Many surgical diseases are the object of physiotherapy (inflammation of the tissues, vascular diseases, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, etc.) as well as all sorts of complications (bleeding, keloid scars, infiltrates, etc.).
Physical factors in the preoperative preparation of patients have a favorable impact on the operated patient, preparing the fabric to the active regeneration and prevent the development of postoperative complications.
Physical therapy can also be used in emergency conditions (with pain syndromes, bouts of colic, etc.).
Role of physiotherapy in the prevention of disease is well-known .
A variety of therapeutic physical factors are now used in the complex of therapeutic measures.
Along with the techniques already long been known and recognized (ultraviolet rays, laser therapy, direct current electric field of ultra-high frequency, etc.) in surgical practice diadynamic sinusoidal modulated currents, magnetic therapy, phonophoresis of drugs and many more are also being increasingly introduced.
Physiotherapy and massage - the most correct and safest choice - if you decide what to do to cope with diseases and ailments leaning.
More radical medication - antibiotics, hormones - are needed in some cases, but, if possible, better to try to do without them.
So, the sun, sea and physiotherapy - three components of success on the path to your health.
